Roads through South Africa are generally well-maintained in populous areas, though the conditions vary a great deal in more rural regions, to the point where simple dirt tracks take precedence over anything else. Bus services cover most of the country, and long-haul journeys are made using comfortable, modern coaches. Taxis and minibuses are available through all major regions of the country, and rates should be agreed on before undertaking long journeys – fares are generally reasonable, though there are some illegal transport services operating in certain cities, meaning caution should be undertaken. Rail services operate regularly throughout the country – from internal city networks and their cheap and cheerful nature to the luxury sleeper cars available for cross country travels. Discounts are available for certain stipulations, for example under elevens, who pay half fare. Major ports are linked by Starlight Cruises, as well as – sometimes – by locals and personal boats offering travel. Care should be taken if travelling with vessels that are not registered for public transport. South Africa’s internal flight network connects all of the major towns through the country as well as having some links to smaller towns in more out-of-the-way regions. Flights can prove expensive, however. Car Hire http://avis.com/ http://www.hertz.com http://www.argusrentals.com/
